NSW recorded 1290 new locally acquired cases of COVID-19 in the 24 hours to 8pm last night, Premier Gladys Berejiklian announced today.
The deaths of four people who had COVID-19 were reported by NSW Health, one of which was a man in his 50s from Dubbo who died at Dubbo Hospital.
There have now been 93 COVID-19 related deaths in NSW since June 16, and 149 in total since the start of the pandemic.
The total number of cases in NSW since the beginning of the pandemic is 25,668 and there have been 20,061 locally acquired cases reported since June 16 when the first case in the current outbreak was reported.
Narrabri Shire has managed to maintain its COVID-free status, with no new cases coming from the Narrabri local government area.
Sewage testing commenced in Narrabri last week after which negative results were announced to have been returned.
Meanwhile, fragments of COVID-19 have been detected in sewage samples taken at Moree and Tamworth.
The detection at Moree came from a sample taken on August 24 while Tamworth’s detection came from samples on August 24 and 26.
While the detection of the virus in sewage can be an indication of infection in the community, it is reported that people can shed the virus several weeks after they are no longer infectious. An infected person can also shed virus in their faeces even if they do not have any symptoms.
