Former Narrabri GP Dr Kenoes van Lill and Cecile are looking forward to a new phase in their lives as soon as COVID travel restrictions allow.
The van Lills are selling their riverside property ‘Broadwater’ near Narrabri and plan to set off aboard a caravan on a tour of Australia.
The couple moved here in 2010 and formed many friendships.
But now life on the road beckons, for a while at least.
“We will go where we can. We have seen most of NSW, but there is a lot to see,” Kenoes said.
It is a move they are making with some regret.
“We just love Narrabri, the community, the town,” said Cecile. “Life is so good in Narrabri.
“And it is quite possible after our tour we will return to live here again.”
As a Narrabri GP, Dr van Lill was a popular practitioner, caring for local patients for 10 years.
Cecile has been closely involved with her church and as president of community support organisation Shared Table.
“Working with my volunteer colleagues from five different churches at Shared Table is a priority,” said Cecile.
“I will be here until the end of the year and if possible for the Shared Table Christmas lunch.
“We love Narrabri and our church family – it’s such a big part of our lives,” said Cecile.
“We are a bit reluctant to move on but want to see what the rest of Australia looks like,” Kenoes said.
While in Narrabri, Kenoes has developed a successful Dorper stud which has flourished on the riverside pastures.
Broadwater will be offered at auction – online, because of COVID – on September 30.
Interest in the coming auction has been high as people increasingly seek a country life, relocating from metropolitan centres and regional cities and from towns to the bush.
The van Lills have enjoyed the idyllic setting, flanked by a long and deep stretch of the Namoi River and conveniently close to town.
The new owners of Broadwater will find a lifestyle which offers potential for productive grazing and country living with the ever present lure of some of the best Namoi river fishing right at their doorstep.
