For the first time in almost seven weeks, competition bowls returned to Narrabri Sporties’ John McNamara Owen Campey Green last Thursday and continued on Saturday.

On Thursday, the Narrabri Women’s Bowling Club’s Consistency Singles season resumed with four round two matches.

Ronnie Dewar, Sue Solomon, Mary Wheeler and Lyn Tuckey all advanced to the next round, as did Eva Sadler who received a forfeit from Gloria Campey.

Dewar defeated Glennis Godden 150-124 and Solomon beat Rhonda Welchman 150-114.

In a much closer game, Wheeler edged out Marie Redman by six shots. The lead changed hands on several ends and the score after 29 ends was 142-all. Wheeler played a long end for the 30th end and scored eight shots to two to win the game 150-144.

Tuckey and Di Chessells also had a very close game which was separated by a margin of two shots. After 30 ends, the score was 149-147 to Tuckey. Chessels then scored six shots to four on the 31st end, leaving the score even at 153 each.  An extra end was played and the score was 5-all. That forced a 33rd end, during which Tuckey scored six shots to four to win the game 164-162.

Another ladies’ bowls Consistency Singles game was played on Saturday which saw Lorraine Scott defeat Carol Demamiel 152-90. Also advancing to the next round was Lyn Wedesweiler who received a forfeit from Debbie Gleeson.

The Narrabri Sporties’ men’s 2021 bowls season Triples competition semi-finals were played on Saturday as well.

Ron Ryan, Bruce Tomlinson (sub for Bob Cantrill) and Kevin Baguley advanced to this Saturday’s final, as did Rob Wolters, Tony Redman and Trinity Kelly.

Ryan, Tomlinson and Baguley defeated Leo Hall, Stuart Coleman and Paul Crutcher 25-20. The score was 13-all on the 13th end and 16-all on the 17th end before Baguley’s team scored nine shots to four across the last eight ends.

Wolters, Redman and Kelly had a close game against David Briggs, Bill Rosewarn and Graham Rose. Kelly’s team was leading 18-12 on the 18th end but Rose’s team won the next five ends to lead 19-18 after 23 ends. The score was 19 all with one end left to play. Redman’s second bowl was a toucher. Rose tried hard to disturb the bowl but it remained and Kelly’s team won 20-19.

Meanwhile, social bowls was also played on Thursday and Saturday.

In a Three Bowls Triples game on Thursday, Olwyn Campey, Carol Demamiel and Lyn Wedesweiler beat Leslie Anderson, Jan Etheridge and Rhonda Fitzgerald 17-16.

In Saturday afternoon social bowls, the winner was Anthony Welchman on 22 points. Di Chessels was second with 21 and Rhonda Welchman was third on 20 points. Other bowlers’ scores were as follows – Barry Shepherd 19, Dawn Armstrong 18, Eva Sadler 17, Olwyn Campey, Laurie Gilbert 14, Lyn Wedesweiler 12, Marie Redman 8, John Hands 8, Cindy Neil 7, Rob Wolters 6, Tony Redman 5.

Narrabri Women’s Bowling Club matches to be played on Thursday, September 30 are as follows:
R Dewar v E Sadler (marker – G Godden); L Tuckey v L Wedesweiler (marker – M Redman).

If it rains on Thursday, those games will be played on Saturday, October 2.

Match scheduled for Saturday is as follows:
S Solomon v L Scott (marker – K Carolan).
