Former Group 4 Rugby League referee and The Courier sport journalist Gerard Sutton will referee his seventh NRL Telstra Premiership grand final – and fifth in a row – when the South Sydney Rabbitohs take on the Penrith Panthers at Brisbane’s Suncorp Stadium on Sunday .

NRL announced the match officials on Tuesday, with David Munro and Todd Smith to serve as touch judges and Grant Atkins appointed as the bunker review official.

Sutton refereed the 2014 and 2015 deciders, and has since held the whistle in every grand final since 2017.

During an esteemed NRL career, which began with his debut in March, 2019, Sutton has officiated 311 NRL matches and 22 State of Origin games, and has won the Col Pearce Medal for best NRL referee of the year five times.
