Graham Rose and Tony Redman are Narrabri Sporties’ 2021 Senior Pairs champions following a comfortable win in the final which was played at the club’s John McNamara Owen Campey Green on Saturday.

Rose and Redman defeated Rob Wolters (sub for David Briggs) and Anthony Welchman 28-10 across 19 ends.

Rose and Redman got off to a flying start, winning the first three ends to establish an eight shots to nothing lead.

They only won three of the following seven ends, however, led 13-5 after 10.

The eventual champions extended their lead to 10 on the 13th end as they made the score 17-7 when they scored a four, before the sides traded a shot each as the score became 18-8 after 15 ends.

Rose and Redman led 22-10 on the 18th as the match drew towards a close, then scored a six on the 19th end which saw them claim the title.

Consistency Singles matches were also contested at Narrabri Sporties on Saturday, as Larry Scott, Ron Ryan and Dave Dewar all scored victories to advance to the semi-final round.

In an entertaining quarter-final clash, Scott defeated Rob Wolters by just eight shots in a very close game which was contested across 31 ends.

The score was 104-101 to Wolters after 22 ends. Scott then scored a 7-3 on each of the next three ends to take a 122-113 lead.

After 30 ends, Scott was ahead 144 shots to 140. He then scored another 7-3 on the 31st end to win the game 151-143.

In another close quarter-final match which was contested across 31 ends, Dewar defeated Redman by just two shots.

The score was 60-all after 12 ends, 65-all on the 13th end, 70-all on the 14th end and 85-all on the 17th end.

The game remained close, and after 30 ends Dewar led 149-147. Both players then scored a five on the 31st end which saw Dewar take the game 154-152.

In the other quarter-final match played on Saturday, Ryan defeated Leo Hall 152-118. Both competitors played some great bowls, but Ryan won the game after 27 ends.

Another Consistency Singles match was played on Saturday which saw Kevin Baguley qualify through to the round of 16 stage when he defeated Scott Dewar in a first round game.

That match was very close after 16 ends with the score 78-75 to Baguley. He then scored a couple of nines on the next 13 ends to win the game 150-122.

He will now take on Terry Wilson in their round of 16 contest on Saturday, after which the winner will play against Rose for a chance to meet Dave Dewar in the semi-final.

The semi-final between Scott and Ryan will be played on Saturday.

Consistency Singles at 9.30am – Kevin Baguley v Terry Wilson (marker – David Dewar).
Consistency Singles at 1pm – Ron Ryan v Larry Scott (marker – Leo Hall).

Narrabri Sporties’ Club Triples final will be contested on Sunday, October 24, from 9.30am. Rob Wolters, Tony Redman and Trinity Kelly will take on Ron Ryan, Bob Cantrill and Kevin Baguley in that decider.

Meanwhile, Thursday night barefoot bowls is played every week. Be at the club by 6pm – individual entries or team entries welcome.
