The rear unit at a two-level complex on Lloyd Street was fully engulfed in fire when emergency services arrived at the scene of a recent blaze.
Narrabri Fire and Rescue responded to reports of a fire on the evening of October 22.
The fire threatened to spread into the neighbouring dwellings.
Fire attack crews gained entry to the property and prevented the fire from extending into the adjoining units.
Crews were then required to exit the inside of the structure due to the extensive fire damage to the flooring material and transitioned to an external fire attack strategy.
Firefighters were able to contain the fire and gain control in just under an hour before blacking out the remaining hotspots and implementing control measures to deal with an asbestos hazard.
Narrabri Fire and Rescue thanked NSW Police and ambulance paramedics for attending the scene and assisting with the incident.
“Thankfully, bystanders were able to alert the sole occupant (who was asleep at the time) of the present fire and remove him to safety preventing any injuries or potential fatalities from this incident,” a spokesperson said.
