The Narrabri Show Society’s much-loved Spring Rose and Flower Show is set to make a late bloom following a delay due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Traditionally held in early October, the decision was made to hold the event this weekend.

On Saturday, the auditorium at the Narrabri Bowling Club will be full of beautiful blooms.

One of the show’s organisers, Wendy McNair, said the show – a highlight on the district calendar – would have a modified program of cut flowers only.

The event’s usual full program, including decorative work, was altered to allow the event to proceed quickly.

Mrs McNair thanked the bowling club for providing a venue for the show at such short notice.

She said the organisers were pleased the display was able to go ahead.

“We feel we need a bit of a lift up,” she said of the show boosting people’s spirits.

“We expect the usual exhibitors plus some new faces.”

Among the possible entrants is Belinda Bennett, of Narrabri, who has entered the show for several years.

Mrs Bennett said the display was a great local event.

“It is nice after the drought to be able to have some flowers,” she said.

She is hoping to enter some of her roses which have been blooming in abundance.

“They have been quite good with the rain,” she said.

Entries will be accepted at the bowling club between 8am and 9am on Saturday. Judging will commence once entries are closed.

Mrs McNair said organisers hope the show will open to the public from 10am and doors will close at 5pm.
