Wee Waa Bowling Club hosted two finals on Sunday when the champions of the Over-60s Singles and the Club Fours competitions were crowned at the Laurie Hoad Green.
Steve Berger claimed the Over-60s Singles title after outscoring Chris Crutcher 34-19 in the decider, while the team of Kyne Allen, Ross Smith, Phil Lawford and Bruce Cowan won 30-12 in the Club Fours final against Brock Allen, Charlie Thompson, Gary Nolan and Brett Pillar.
In the Over-60s Singles final, Crutcher claimed the first end to establish an early 1-0 lead before Berger levelled the score at one apiece on the second end.
Berger then claimed three of the following four ends to go ahead 7-2 after six before Crutcher reduced the deficit to one by scoring four shots across the next two ends.
The two finalists then traded a shot each across the next two ends, which saw Berger lead 8-7 after 10, but Crutcher then wrestled back the lead with a three on the 11th to edge in front by two shots.
Berger trailed 11-10 after the 14th end before he equalised on the 15th and then went ahead after scoring a two on the 16th. He would never give up that lead and he went on to be crowned champion of that division.
He won three of the following four ends, a combined seven shots to three, to lead 20-14 after 20.
Crutcher scored a three on the 24th end to reduce his deficit to three shots as the score became 21-18, but Berger dominated the remainder of the game as he claimed six of the next seven ends, a combined 13 shots to one, to earn a 15-shot victory.
In the Club Fours final, the eventual champions established a dominant lead early in the contest.
Allen, Smith, Lawford and Cowan claimed the first four ends of the match to go ahead 11-0.
Their opponents would never come within more than six shots of their score as they ran away to win by 18 shots after 20 ends of play.
Allen, Thompson, Nolan and Pillar scored a two on the eighth end to make the score 12-6, but Allen, Smith, Lawford and Cowan won four of the next six ends a combined 7-3 to lead by 10 shots after 14 as the scoreboard read 19-9.
Allen, Thompson, Nolan and Pillar were determined to spark a comeback, and a three on the 15th end could have been the catalyst for a remarkable turnaround.
However, Allen, Smith, Lawford and Cowan maintained their composure and won all of the following five ends while adding 11 more points to their total to win the match 30-12.
Four matches were also played at Wee Waa Bowling Club on Saturday.
In Consistency Singles, Peter Doring edged out Chris Crutcher 154-152, Toby Reynolds beat Hunter Doring 151-127 and Brett Pillar outscored Steve Berger 154-138.
