Tony and Sandra Nott are Narrabri Golf Club’s Morton Memorial champs for 2021 after they took out Sunday’s four-ball best-ball two-person mixed teams event with a brilliant score of 50 points.

In their second time playing in the event, the husband-and-wife duo won the 18-hole tournament for the first time from runners-up Bob and Maree Taylor, who finished the day with 47 points.

Those two teams played alongside one another on the day and they could not be missed in their eye-catching, colourful uniforms.

Troy and Tash Nott placed third in Sunday’s event with 46 points, while Rod and Melissa Hall and Steve and Di Parish finished ranked fourth and fifth respectively on 45 points.

The sixth-placed team included Tony Meppem and Peg Penberthy, who finished the day with 43 points.

There were 62 players in action on Sunday, 48 of which contested the Morton Memorial.

The other 14 competed in a men’s four-ball event, which Dylan Armitage and Todd Farrer won from the runners-up Blake Brown and Blake Hilderson.

The ladies nearest to pin winners were Di Parish (fifth), Maree Taylor (12th) and Leisa Eather (16th) and men’s nearest to pin winners were Luke Findley (fifth), Glen Stanford (12th) and Geoff Artis (16th).

On a day during which competition was fierce, 17 players scored at least one birdie. They included Maree Taylor (12th), Bob Taylor (second and fourth), Troy Nott (third, 14th and 15th), Steve Parish (fourth), Dylan Armitage (seventh), Andrew Smart (15th), Blake Hilderson (seventh and 14th), Blake Brown (seventh and 14th), Shane Hartog-Smith (seventh and 14th), Jim Pitman (first), Will Coldham (first, fourth and sixth), Adam Hatton (11th), Robin Findley (third), Geoff Artis (first), Adam Taylor (first, ninth and 14th), Rebecca Artis (14th) and Brendan Kramel (first).

The annual Morton Memorial two-person mixed team four-ball best-ball event is played each year in memory of the late Hamish and Helen (nee Leitch) Morton.
Both were former Narrabri Golf Club members who died in a plane crash in 1953.

The couple was en route from Sydney to London to attend the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II at Westminster Abbey on June 2.

The Morton Memorial golf day was originally played as a singles’ event for the Narrabri Ex-Services Diggers Golf Day but was changed to a mixed teams event in 1964.
