On Thursday, November 18, Hunter New England (HNE) Health revealed COVID-19 fragments had been detected in Narrabri.
“We have been notified of recent detections of COVID-19 virus fragments from the Uralla and Narrabri sewage treatment plants, where there are no known cases,” HNE Health said.
“We continue to urge everyone in this area to come forward for testing even if they have the mildest of symptoms so we can identify any unknown cases in the community and reduce transmission.”
Narrabri Shire Council shared their concerns on social media, explaining that this is the first time the Narrabri sewage treatment plant (STP) has recorded a positive result since regular testing started.
“The Narrabri, Boggabri and Wee Waa STPs were all tested on Tuesday, November 16,” Council said.
“Results of this week’s Wee Waa and Boggabri tests will be posted when known.”
“The positive reading does not confirm whether there is or isn’t a COVID case currently in the Narrabri area.”
“The only way to determine an actual positive case of COVID is for people to be tested.”
“Anyone who has the slightest symptoms are encouraged to get tested.”
