Junior Narrabri athletes Matthew Evans and Ruby Clayton have been recognised for their impressive efforts and achievements in 2021 with the top prizes in the Northern Inland Academy of Sport athletics program.
Matthew, the son of Bruce and Cathy Evans, was named the NIAS senior athlete of the year and Ruby, the daughter of Brett and Jodie Clayton, was awarded the NIAS junior athlete of the year prize.
Matthew is a 16-year-old Year 10 student at Narrabri High School and Ruby is an 11-year-old Year 6 student at Narrabri West Public School.
Both have been part of the Narrabri Little Athletics Club for many years.
Both athletes were chosen to be a part of the NIAS program at the start of the year and have excelled during 2021, breaking records and improving each week.
As well as overall performance, the awards also take into account training attendance and records, the athletes’ interactions with their coaches, and their all-round attitudes.
