The growing volume of parcels nowadays moving through Australia Post’s network has seen the opening of a brand new delivery centre at Narrabri.

The recently opened Narrabri Delivery Centre, housed in a huge 40 by 70 metre shed on Wee Waa Road, has been in operation since November 22.

“It’s all systems ‘go’ at our new facility” said Australia Post New England operations manager Paul York.

Australia Post has responded to the boom in online shopping, which is seeing more parcels and larger items travel through the network, while letter volumes continue to decline.

Narrabri is increasingly a busier mail centre and Australia Post anticipated it will deliver up to 20,000 parcels in the Narrabri and Wee Waa area this December.

“Letters are still an important part of our business, but parcels are now in such high demand that we know it is important to invest in new facilities like this,” said Mr York.

Narrabri is one of the key regional centres which will be a hub for the expanded mail facilities.

“We are very pleased with the new facility, which is much safer for all our team members,” said Mr York.

“It gives us more space with the ability to load delivery vans inside the building, to help significantly reduce manual handling of parcels.”

Manual handling will be reduced by fourfold because of the new process flow, Mr York said.

The Narrabri facility employs 11 team members including posties, parcel contractors and delivery contractors.
