The 2021 Central North Rugby Union season was another successful one for Narrabri Rugby Club.
Unfortunately, it was cut short with the finals just around the corner back in August.
CNRU put the competition on hold in the second last round of the regular season due to restrictions that were put in place across NSW in response to the COVID-19 pandemic which resulted in community sport being unable to continue.
The zone planned and prepared for the competition’s return, but it was not to be as the season was eventually abandoned.
Teams were ranked based on the ladder standings at the completion of round 16 in the three respective grades, which saw Narrabri place second in first grade, third in second grade and fourth in women’s sevens.
The Blue Boars’ three teams all produced exciting and entertaining rugby throughout the year.
On Sunday, Narrabri Rugby Club hosted its annual awards presentation event at the Tourist Hotel where players, club officials, sponsors and supporters gathered to acknowledge both individual and team brilliance throughout the year.
Eight team awards were won at the event which were as follows:
Women’s sevens: Amanda Fowler shield for most improved player – Carly Baxter, Helen Cameron trophy for best and fairest – Toni Gale.
Second grade: Bruce Etheridge trophy for most improved player – Dan Treseder, Oz Gett memorial trophy for best and fairest – Angus Turner.
First grade: Nolan Family Trophy for most improved – Will Ciesiolka, Perry Gilmour Shield for best and fairest – Jack Maunder, George Sevil trophy for best forward – Matt McDonnell, George Sevil Trophy for best back – Will McDonnell.
Six club awards were also won at the event.
The Ian Hillam memorial trophy for highest points scorer went to Jydon Hill.
The Bob Southwell memorial trophy for most dedicated trainer was won by Simon Haire.
The Jim Meppem memorial trophy for representative player of the year was awarded to Daniel Kahl.
The Richard Cameron memorial trophy for best under-21 player went to Toni Gale.
The Brad Hannaford shield for club best and fairest was won by Jack Maunder.
The Zingari Trophy for the Blue Boars’ club person of the year was awarded to Ash Eveleigh.
