Narrabri’s Meat on Maitland butchery has claimed a haul of medals for its quality, local produce.

The business’ bacon and boneless hams each claimed a gold medal while its bone-in-ham and sausages took out silver for the New England region at a recent Australian Meat Industry Council competition.

Meat on Maitland proprietor Damian Galvin, who runs the business with his wife Tiffany, maintains a strong focus on local.

“The reason we’re winning these awards isn’t just because of our effort,” he said.

“It is also about the quality, local products.”

This same quality offering is available for those looking to serve up something delicious to family and friends in the holidays.

Meat on Maitland is encouraging people to place their orders ready for the festive season.

“Don’t be disappointed on missing out on our award-winning ham,” Mr Galvin said.

Among the festive offering is fresh Horton Valley pork, turkeys, Australian seafood, delicious hams, meat packs and chickens. Christmas orders must be placed by Monday.

Reflecting on the business’ first year operating in Narrabri, Mr Galvin thanked the local community for its extensive support since Meat on Maitland opened its local shop in March.

“We want to thank the Narrabri community for making us feel welcome,” he said.

“We hope we’re giving the town what it needs.”

Mr Galvin said the success of the Narrabri business has exceeded his expectations.

Before setting up shop in Narrabri, Mr Galvin would travel to town twice a week to service local businesses and customers.

By opening up a store in Narrabri, he hoped it would it make it easier on himself as well as serve a need in town.

“I knew it would be good here, but I had no idea it would as well supported as it has been,” he said.

“We’ve tried to give Narrabri something they can’t get here.

“We hope now that people do not have to go away to purchase the goods that were unavailable here previously.

“Now they can get it locally.”

Among the business’ offerings are beef, lamb and pork sourced straight from producers in the local area.

A dry-aged beef case is also in use at the store, and the business cooks and smokes its ham and bacon.

Mr Galvin’s Narrabri business is supported by a team of five in-store – Ethan, Jack, Ned, Ash and Steve. The store is also supported by cleaners Dee and May.

“I would like to thank our staff for the hard nine months in getting the shop set up,” Mr Galvin said.

The friendly team prides itself on its good, old-fashioned service.
