When my cousin and myself went to the old Narrabri Cemetery the week before Christmas, we were both disgusted with the height of the grass around our loved ones’ graves and at other graves in the Catholic section grass was knee- high.
Some pioneers’ graves are still covered in flood mud from a few years ago and most of these people do not have family in town to clean them.
One person’s grave, Mr Fitzgerald’s, who donated many years ago to build the building where Healthwise is today, and his headstone does not exist now.
This is disgusting.
I went back to the old cemetery on Christmas Day and nothing had been done to clean it.
What would people who came home for Christmas, think about the state of the cemetery?
Why can’t the old cemetery be kept in the same condition as the lawn cemetery?
The lawn cemetery is lovely.
We need to keep our history alive and show people how proud we are of our ancestors in the old cemetery.
