Today, Wednesday, February 2 is ‘World Wetland Day’. Recent floods have filled wetland systems and major bird breeding is happening at the moment. Vegetation has returned in the semi-arid landscape providing waterbirds with plenty of nest-building material with egrets and ibis in particular nesting in their thousands in the Macquarie Marshes and Gwydir Wetlands.
