NSW Police is encouraging people to remember to lock their vehicles and remove any valuable items.
The message was issued to communities in the Oxley Police District, which includes Narrabri and surrounding towns, following increased reports of people trespassing on private property.
Quarterly crime statistics for the local area showed that Narrabri had recorded seven steal from motor vehicle incidents in the last three months of 2021.
In Wee Waa, three incidents were recorded in the same period, and two were recorded in Boggabri.
Police urge people to ensure wallets, phones and cash are removed from the vehicle.
Additional security advice to protect vehicles include:
• Locking vehicle doors and ensuring all windows are closed;
• Park vehicles in a well-lit area;
• Park off the road, and if possible, in a locked garage;
• Avoid leaving items in the glove box or centre console, this is the first place thieves will look;
• Remove registration papers from your vehicle;
• Do not hide spare keys in a vehicle.
