Wee Waa Bowling Club’s 2021 season finally arrived at its conclusion on Saturday when the B-grade Pairs final was contested on the club’s Norman Sweetman Green.

The campaign was hampered by the ongoing COVID pandemic and the subsequent restrictions that were put in place in August last year as the state ramped up efforts to stop the spread of the virus.

The club was then forced to deal with wild and wet weather later in the year.

The combination of both of those factors, as well as player availability, forced the club to postpone several matches to 2022.

Those are now finished following Saturday’s B-grade Pairs final, which was won by Todd Cowan and Cody Booby.

In the first championships match played on the club’s grass green in 2022, Cowan and Booby downed their opponents Gary Nolan and Trevor Keys, convincingly, 28 shots to nine.

Nolan and Keys got off to a positive start as they claimed the first two ends to establish an early three shots to nothing lead.

However, Cowan and Booby then claimed the next eight consecutive ends to take a commanding lead.

They scored one shot on each of the first four ends of that run to go ahead four shots to three, then scored seven across the next four to lead by eight as the scoreboard read 11-3.

Nolan and Keys scored one point on the 11th end, but Cowan and Booby went on another run which put the result beyond doubt.

They won the next five ends, while scoring 12 points, to lead 23 shots to four with just five ends left to play.

Nolan and Keys held onto the slim hope that they could produce a remarkable come-from-behind win when they picked up five points across the 17th and 18th ends to make the score 23 shots to nine.

However, Cowan and Booby went on to secure the last three ends to win the match 28-9.
