The annual Narrabri Shire Snapshot competition is popular with local photographers, providing them the opportunity to share their photography that is predominately natural landscapes and landmarks unique to Narrabri Shire.
The competition attracts over 100 entries across all categories each year.
In a statement, Narrabri Shire Council said it has been discovered that entries have been submitted in the 2022 competition that not only breach the spirit of what the competition is about but were also a clear breach of the competition’s terms and conditions.
These entries have now been declared invalid, council said in its statement.
A spokesperson said council is pleased to have the support and creative expertise of local born and international photographer and all-round creative Pete Longworth who has kindly reviewed and declared the 2022 overall winner of the Shire Snapshot competition.
The 2022 winner of the Narrabri Shire Snapshot Competition Open category is – Hayley Judd.
Pete reviewed several entries and said of the winning photograph: “For an image that is a stunning display of light. It is a beautiful encapsulation of feeling and a moment that is so simple, yet so serene.”
The 2022 Open People’s Choice Winner is Paula Johannesen. Paula’s entry titled ‘Make Hay While the Sun Shines’ perfectly captured the agricultural links to our shire.
Both are extremely deserving entries and are true expressions of elements that portray Narrabri Shire.
In its statement announcing the new winner, council said it was extremely disappointed that the terms and conditions have been breached in a popular competition that promotes passionate local creativity.
“The terms and conditions though are very clear – the image must be taken within Narrabri Shire,” the council’s statement read.
“Photos submitted must be the entrant’s own work.
“Entrants are required to acknowledge their entries meet these terms and conditions.
“Further measures to ensure entries are submitted in accordance with the terms and conditions, as well as the spirit of competition, will be introduced.”
