Sean’s Two for Ten, a two-kilometre charity walk-a-thon costing $10, is back again this year and will be taking place in Narrabri on Sunday, April 10.

The local Inner Wheel team has mapped out a path that will start at Cameron Park, stretching along the river.

With the event running from 8am to 10am, participants can begin the walkathon whenever they like within the two-hour window.

Those entering can either pay their $10 when they register, or have friends and family sponsor them to walk the track, raising even more money.

Profits made on the day will go towards cord blood research, giving hope to seriously ill people suffering from leukaemia, strokes, heart disease and other autoimmune diseases.

Ten-year-old Sean, the event’s namesake, is just one Australian whose life was saved by an injection of cord blood cells.

Such vital research has even touched our community, with a Narrabri family reaping the benefits of these lifesaving injections – a local girl who was told her life would be cut short has been able to make it well into her teen years and is continuing to live life to the fullest, as a direct result of cord blood research.

Narrabri Inner Wheel members, Barbara Murphy and Tricia Hadley, say they want the event to be family-orientated and community-minded.

“We’re hiding treasure rocks along the path, and have a kid’s temporary tattoo station halfway along the track, so even the little ones can get involved,” they said.

“And we have your breakfast covered, thanks to Rotary sponsoring us with a barbecue from 7.30am onwards.”

There will also be a range of stores run by the Inner Wheel ladies at the walk-a-thon, with the aim of raising further funds. A cake stall and plant sale will be available on the day.

“It should be great fun, so we want lots of locals to get involved,” Mrs Murphy said.

“The walk itself only takes 20 minutes, and the track is perfect for beginners, so the more the merrier,” Mrs Hadley said.

Anyone interested in signing up for the walk-a-thon can do so on the day.

The sign-up tent will be at the hospital side of Cameron Park.
