Gunnedah Shire Council is biting the bullet and calling on the Australian Local Government Association to remove restrictions on the development of nuclear energy. The motion will go to the next Local Government Association conference in June. Gunnedah council deputy mayor Rob Hooke urged the move noting it would be ‘foolish’ not to look at the nuclear energy option. Previously in the north west it has been proposed by an Armidale district resident that each household could have a ‘nuclear battery’ in the backyard offering 1000 years of clean energy. It may take some debate to get that idea up, but we do live in a rapidly changing world.
