Motorists are reminded in NSW and the ACT that double demerits will apply for five days over the Easter long weekend from Thursday, April 14 to Monday, April 18. The points will apply for speeding, illegal use of mobile phones, not wearing a seat belt and riding without a motorcycle helmet. There are also mobile phone detection cameras active in NSW and the ACT and drivers caught using their phones during a double demerit period will get a $352 fine ($469 in a school zone) and 10 demerit points. The demerit points system is a national program that encourages safe and responsible driving. If you drive safely and don’t break any rules, you continue to have zero demerits.
