The Rotary Club of Narrabri hosted almost 60 attendees at its Polio Plus movie night at The Crossing Theatre last Thursday night.
Cinema-goers were treated to a pre-release screening of The Duke.
The Duke tells the story of the theft of a portrait of the Duke of Wellington from the National Gallery in London.
The quality acting and plot were well-received by attendees at last week’s international fundraising movie night.
Thanks to community support, Narrabri Rotarians were able to raise almost $600 towards the eradication of polio.
Thanks to contributing funding from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, the local contribution will turn into a donation of almost $2000.
Globally, Rotary has been working to eradicate polio for more than 35 years.
Rotary members have contributed more than $2.1 billion and countless volunteer hours to protect nearly three billion children in 122
countries from this paralysing disease.
Rotary’s advocacy efforts have played a role in decisions by governments to contribute more than $10 billion to the effort.
Today, the disease remains endemic only in Afghanistan and Pakistan.
