On Friday, May 6, the National Recovery and Resilience Agency came to Narrabri to host a one-stop-shop event to share the information and support options available for farmers, farm workers and country communities.
The region might be receiving plenty of rainfall right now, but the impact of the recent drought was devastating, from the farm gate to the main street, and some are still recovering.
Farmers are working hard to make the most of favourable conditions and good harvests to ensure they’re resilient enough to overcome the next drought.
While others have been impacted by flooding in the last six months.
NRRA supports both recovery and resilience.
The Rotary Club of Narrabri partnered with NRRA to put on the community outreach event.
It was also attended by other organisations which were on hand to provide community members with information and assistance including, Rural Aid, The Salvation Army, NSW Police Force, Ombudsman NSW, Drought Angels and the Murray Darling Basin Authority.
“Community members took up the opportunity to engage with a number of providers and get some really valuable, practical and useful information and support,” said Northern NSW regional recovery officer Sandy McNaughton.
“The amount of time that community members spent at the event was indicative of how relevant the available information was, as well as the quality of the advice received.
“It was really positive and really affirmed how the community found the event so worthwhile.”
