Narrabri VRA has taken delivery of a state-of-the-art rescue vehicle, helping local volunteers to continue responding to emergencies across the district.

The vehicle, unveiled at a gathering the organisation’s Mooloobar Street headquarters, features new equipment and technology to deal with the range of events and incidents attended by the VRA.

VRA captain Harvey Black welcomed the addition of the new vehicle to the service as well as the benefits it brings to the squad.

Mr Black said the new vehicle was a dual cab and could carry more personnel.

“It’s a standard design issued by VRA NSW Rescue,” he said.

The Narrabri squad will soon put the vehicle to use after it transfers existing equipment.

While it replaces an older rescue truck, the now secondary vehicle will serve as a back-up ready for when needed by the service.

“We are working out the new facilities and what needs to be added,” Mr Black said.

“We will have it fitted out how we want it, ready for the needs of the community.”

The delivery of the vehicle came as the service marked its 47th anniversary in Narrabri.

In addition to new equipment, the new vehicle also features state-of-the-art lighting towers which will of use to the VRA at accident scenes.

Tony Cole, of Coonabarabran, who helps to look after the warehouse needs of the service across the state, delivered the vehicle to Narrabri.

While the local VRA squad had set aside funds to contribute towards a new vehicle in the future, thanks to the new unit’s funding from the NSW government, Narrabri VRA will be able to put its funds towards a project that benefits the community.

In other VRA news, the service has been recently impacted by volunteer absences due to COVID isolation requirements.

Mr Black reminded the community that Narrabri VRA is always on the lookout for new members.

The service’s training nights continue at the Mooloobar Street headquarters on Thursdays.
