Narrabri District Tennis Association and Narrabri Tennis head coach Shane Murphy hosted a North West Regional Matchplay Series event at the Dangar Park Tennis Centre on Sunday.
The popular event, which was the second last to be contested in the 2022 series, attracted 86 entrants, 75 of which played on the day.
Representing Narrabri were Lucas Dowdell, Charlie Johnstone, Charlotte Murphy, Chloe Cameron, Eliza Lennox, Charlie Butler, Billy Johnstone, Lachlan Cameron, Sophie Hartnett, Anthea O’Regan, Jack Hartnett, Ava Garbutt, George Bennett, Callum Wales and Cooper Butler.
Three of those youngsters placed second in their respective divisions, including Charlie in the 12-years-and-under boys, Jack in the 14-years-and-under boys and Ava in the 14-years-and-under girls.
In the 10-years-and-under boys’ division, Lucas placed fourth overall and Charlie Johnstone finished seventh overall.
In the 10-years-and-under girls’ division, Charlotte, Chloe and Eliza placed third, fifth and sixth, respectively, overall.
In the 12-years-and-under boys’ division, Billy finished fourth in his pool and Lachlan finished fifth in his pool.
In the 12-years-and-under girls’ division, Sophie placed fourth overall and Anthea finished fifth overall.
In the open men’s division, George finished sixth overall, Callum finished seventh overall and Cooper finished ninth overall.
Murphy told The Courier that he was thrilled with how the day ran.
It was a sensational day for not only tennis in Narrabri, but also for the north west series,” he said.
“Great numbers of players competing with great tennis being displayed across the courts across all age groups.
“Awesome to see so many Narrabri Tennis athletes competing in what is the next step along the development pathway coaching, comps and tournaments.
“Some great results from the Narrabri Tennis athletes and they should be all very proud of their efforts and as always some points to work on in their own matchplay skills.
“A massive thank you to all the volunteers that helped make the day a massive success.”

10-years-and-under boys: winner – Zac Parkinson, runner-up – Harry Tudgey.
12-years-and-under girls: winner – Sophie Neilsen, runner-up – Ezarlia Cant.
12-years-and-under boys: winner – Curtis Parkinson, runner-up – Charlie Butler.
14-years-and-under girls: winner – Brigid Murphy, runner-up – Ava Garbutt.
14-years-and-under boys: winner – Henry Maunder, runner-up – Jack Hartnett.
Open ladies: winner – Camille Maunder, runner-up – Erin Murphy.
Open mens: winner – Marco Cicchelli, runner-up – James Maunder.
The last leg of the North West RMS series will be held at Moree on Sunday, July 24.
