Police have arrested a 35-year-old man in relation to an alleged high speed chase in a stolen vehicle and subsequent crash in the early hours of Friday morning.
Officers observed the vehicle being driven down Gibbons Street, approaching the Violet Street intersection, at 12.15am on Friday, August 26.
Police allege the stolen vehicle was being driven at high speed.
Police activated lights and sirens, however, the stolen vehicle continued to be driven at high speed in the late-night pursuit.
Speeds reached 100kmh in a 50kmh zone, in Grace Street.
The vehicle made a sharp right down Elliott Street, then Hinds Street, with police continuing to pursue the vehicle.
After turning into Park Crescent, the stolen blue Holden Cruze collided with another vehicle, causing extensive damage.
Police attempted to chase the alleged offenders on foot, however, the male driver and passenger fled the scene.
The crashed, stolen vehicle was towed to Narrabri Police Station.
Investigations into the matter are continuing.
Telstra tower climbing incident could’ve had dire consequences: Police
Police have voiced concern with a late-night incident that involved men climbing the Doyle Street Telstra tower.
Officers were called to the CBD location at 12.30am on Sunday, August 21, after reports of people entering the private site.
The incident involved three men aged 21-years-old, one man aged 25-years-old and one man aged 30-years-old.
The men had reportedly partially climbed the telecommunications tower, and police have said alcohol was a factor in the incident.
After arriving at the site, police called for the men to climb down the tower.
Four of the men started to climb down the Telstra tower, however, police reported the fifth man would not comply with initial instructions.
The neighbouring Fire and Rescue Station and its officers assisted in the incident by providing lighting on the tower to assist police, prompting the fifth man to climb down.
Officers were on the scene for a lengthy amount of time in a situation that police said could’ve had dire consequences.
Police have advised the men will be receiving legal proceedings in relation to the matter.
Police pursuit reaches high speeds
A police pursuit through Narrabri township to Narrabri West and then on to Yarrie Lake Road reached dangerous, high speeds.
At 11.45pm on Saturday, August 20, a Toyota Prado was turning right from Tibbereena Street onto Dangar Street before coming to a stop when a police vehicle approached.
Police deployed lights and sirens in an attempt to stop the vehicle, however, a pursuit pursued down Dangar Street and Cooma Road, reaching speeds of up to 100kmh.
The pursuit continued down Mooloobar, Baranbar and Goobar Streets, and then outside of town on Yarrie Lake Road.
The pursuit along Yarrie Lake Road reached speeds faster than 140kmh and the vehicle was last sighted travelling at 145kmh.
Police investigations into the matter are continuing.
High-range drink driver issued with court notice
A driver was issued with a court attendance notice for high-range drink-driving.
Police observed the man turning right from Denison Street into Balonne Street at speed.
Officers also observed the driver taking quite a wide berth to turn at the intersection, arousing police of suspicious behaviour.
Police conducted a roadside breath test, and the man returned a positive result.
He was conveyed to Narrabri Police Station and returned a reading of .178.
Pursuit on Gibbons Street
Police observed two vehicles parked in the middle of Violet Street at 12.15am on Thursday, August 25.
As officers approached the vehicle from behind, one vehicle took off at speed and was subsequently followed by the second, parked vehicle.
One vehicle turned down Gibbons and then made its way to Hinds Street.
The pursuit, conducted at high speeds, was terminated after officers lost sight of the vehicle.
The second vehicle was located at Elliott Street and officers obtained details from the driver.
Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
Woman charged with alleged drug offences
A 36-year-old woman will attend court charged with a raft of offences in relation to a search warrant conducted earlier this year.
The woman has been charged with supplying a prohibited drug greater than indictable less than commercial, possessing a prohibited drug, three charges of possessing a prescribed restricted substance, dealing with property proceeds of crime as well as goods in custody suspected of being stolen.
The charges relate to the execution of a search warrant in Denison Street in February this year.
At the time, police found a number of items of interest including cannabis, prescription medication, large amount of cash and a police name badge.
Police allege that 3.61 grams of cannabis and 6.68 grams of methamphetamine were located.
The alleged quantity of methamphematine discovered is an indictable offence.
