Narrabri Golf Club’s ladies’ open day made a welcome return last week as 48 golfers lined up at the local club’s pristine 18-hole course.
It has been a long time coming, with the event called off in 2020 and 2021 amid the COVID-19 pandemic and then again late last year after parts of the course were affected by the Narrabri floods.
The four-ball best-ball stableford got underway with a 10am shotgun start and wrapped up with a lunch and the presentation after play finished at about 3pm.
The gross winners with a score of 31 points were Coobabarabran’s Jane McWhirter and Gunnedah’s Michelle Johnson. They won by seven points from Narrabri duo Chrissy Southwell and Zoe Tomlinson, who finished on 24 points.
The nett winners were Wee Waa duo Anne Henry and Anna Baird with 48 points, and the nett runners-up were the Barraba team of Libby Thompson and Lyn Groth.
The front and back nine winners and runners-up were all Narrabri golfers, with Leisa Eather and Louise Penberthy taking out the front nine, Gail Richardson and Peggy Penberthy the runners-up on the front nine, and then Di Parish and Kate Knight the winners of the back nine, and Maree Taylor and Nicole Cooper runners-up of the back nine.
Long drive for B-grade was won by Tamworth’s Michelle Murphy and the long drive for C-grade was claimed by Leisa Eather.
Nearest to pin on the fifth went to Tamworth golfer Lesley Jeffries, and the nearest to pins on the eighth, 12th and 16th holes were claimed by the Narrabri trio of Zoe Tomlinson, Robin Ford and Di Parish, respectively.
