Officers past and present united in Narrabri last week for Retired Police Officers’ Day.

Held annually on the first Thursday of September, the day recognises the service and sacrifice of former officers.

According to the Police Association of NSW, the occasion gives former officers the opportunity to reconnect and celebrate the camaraderie and bonds established during their service, as well as see some of the changes to their commands and stations.

Among those attending the Narrabri afternoon tea were former Assistant Commissioner Steve Bradshaw APM, former Detective-Sergeant John Stewart, former Inspector John Ridley and former Senior Constable Ken Anderson OAM APM.

Officer-in-charge of the Narrabri sector, Chief Inspector Robert Dunn said the day was an important one on the police calendar to recognise
outstanding contributions to the police force.

Chief Inspector Dunn said the Narrabri sector boasted high-ranking, long-serving former officers who had made great contributions to the force.

Joining the distinguished, retired officers were some of the newest recruits to the police force. Probationary Constables Ben Dawson and Bryce Noble spoke about their experiences in the academy.

Officers past and present reminisced about the changes in training and technology in policing.

Former Assistant Commissioner Bradshaw praised the two Probationary Constables as impressive.

Former Senior Constable Anderson, of Wee Waa, described policing as an exciting job.

“I loved the police force,” he said.
