Burren Junction’s annual flower show and market day was back in full bloom on Sunday.
Enthusiastic entrants braved the muddy roads after the rain, filling the School of Arts Hall with a beautiful array of homegrown goodness.
From colourful pansies on saucers to stunning roses and a magnificent orchard – the hall’s supper room looked as good as it smelt with a lovely floral fragrance wafting through.
The event is well-organised by the Burren Junction branch of the Country Women’s Association and after COVID restrictions cancelled last year’s show, the dedicated group was thrilled it could go ahead in 2022.
“We were very happy with the day,” said CWA secretary Margaret Constable.
“It was a little disappointing that some people from Wee Waa and Narrabri, and some of the stall holders, couldn’t come because of the roads, but it was a great day.
“I don’t think I was expecting so many flowers with the muddy roads.”
Despite the wet weather conditions, a good crowd of locals, friends and families flocked to the hall, enjoying a variety of fabulous stalls and a delicious barbecue lunch cooked by the town’s Volunteer Rescue Association.
This year’s show was extra special because 2022 marks the 100th anniversary of the CWA in NSW.
The association is highly regarded because of its commitment to improving the lives of rural Australians.
“One of the main things we try to do is to engage the community, especially women and families in isolation and look after their mental health.”
