Narrabri Women’s Bowling Club’s Spring Carnival event made a highly-anticipated return last weekend.
The 2022 carnival was the first since 2019 after it was cancelled in 2020 and 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Bowlers travelled from across the state to compete, with clubs from Wee Waa, East Cessnock, Booloroo, Guyra, Paxton, Greta, Birmingham Gardens, East Maitland, Kurri Kurri, and Campbelltown joining the hosts.
There were just short of 60 bowlers that played across the weekend at the two-day event.
A hometown team was victorious at the carnival this year. The Narrabri Bowling Club side of Marie Redman, Eva Sadler, Debbie Gleeson and Cindy Neil won all four games to be crowned champions.
Redman, Sadler, Gleeson and Neil defeated Birmingham Gardens 17-10 on Saturday morning and then Kurri Kurri 15-12 Saturday afternoon. The next morning, they demolished a composite team 46-2, and they went on to down Boolaroo 23-12 later that afternoon.
Second place went to East Maitland, which was the only other team to win all four of its games across the weekend.
The Narrabri side prevailed overall as it won 49 ends to the East Maitland team’s 41.
Placing third was a Kurri Kurri side that won three games and only lost to the champion Narrabri team.
The 2022 event’s Saturday morning winning team was Boolaroo, Saturday afternoon winning team was Paxton, Sunday morning winning team was East Cessnock, and Sunday afternoon winning team was a Narrabri and Wee Waa combined side.
The combined team included Wee Waa’s Lisa Pillar and Narrabri trio Kay Carolan, Cecile and Carol Demamiel.
Wee Waa ladies Melissa Allen and Kay and Dot Dewson played alongside Pillar on Saturday but could not return to Narrabri on Sunday due to flooding.
The Bradman went to Narrabri’s Di Chessells, Yvonne Hardman, Glennis Godden and Janet Coleman.
