Clancy Hamilton is Wee Waa Bowling Club’s 2022 over-60s singles competition champion following a 34-end thriller played on the Laurie Hoad synthetic green on Sunday.
Hamilton took on the club’s 2022 A-grade singles champion Steve Berger in that contest and prevailed 31 shots to 28.
The two competitors produced some phenomenal bowls throughout the match.
Hamilton established an early two-shots-to-nothing lead and then won five of the following nine ends a combined 12 shots to five to go ahead 14-5 after 10 ends of play.
Berger then showed his class as he won the next five ends to tie the score up at 14 apiece. Hamilton edged back in front with one shot on the 16th end, but Berger scored a four on the 17th to establish his first lead of the game as the score became 18-15.
Hamilton got back in front at the completion of the 19th end after two consecutive twos saw him take a 19-18 advantage. However, the lead continued to see-saw as Berger scored three
shots to nothing across the next three ends, which saw him make the score 21-19.
Hamilton made it 21-20 on the 23rd end before Berger went on another three-end run to extend his lead to six shots, which was the way it remained after 28 ends after both men scored a shot each during the next two.
Leading 27-21 in the first-to-31 match, Berger was firmly in the box seat as he required just four shots to claim the victory.
However, Hamilton won the next three ends a combined six shots to nothing to level the score at 27-all. Berger edged back in front with a one on the 32nd end, but Hamilton scored a two on the 33rd and another two on the 34th to win the match 31-28.
There was one other match played at the Wee Waa Bowling Club on Sunday, an over-60s pairs match that was won by Ross Smith and Phil Lawford, who downed Gary Nolan and Graham Amos 29 shots to nine.
Smith and Lawford got off the mark with a three on the first end before Nolan and Amos levelled the score at 3-all after two ends.
Smith and Lawford won five of the next six ends to establish an 11-4 lead, and that became 11-6 at the completion of the 10th before they won four straight ends to add 11 shots and go ahead 22-6.
Only five more ends were played as Smith and Lawford took an unassailable 29-9 lead after 19 ends.
