Narrabri SES and emergency services have the personnel and equipment for flood warnings, evacuations and rescues but also a network of monitoring systems to track floods’ progress.
Narrabri Fire and Rescue personnel Joab Rushton and Lucas Warren monitored and reported on flood behaviour at various parts of town with an ‘eye in the sky.’
They sent the drone up to give a bird’s eye view of rising flood waters at sites like Francis Street and Horsearm Creek to monitor the ‘local’ water coming down.
“The video information is streamed straight back to the SES hub in Reid Street,” said Joab.
“What we have on our screen from the drone at the site is on the screen back at the SES depot at the same time.”
The video pictures give a unique extra source of information for personnel tracking and anticipating floodwater behaviour.

Live video from the drone gives a bird’s eye view to inform emergency personnel of flood behaviour in real time.
