The federal government has activated its Disaster Recovery Payment for areas impacted by major flooding.
One-off financial assistance will be available to eligible people adversely affected by the natural disaster, including last week’s major flood event.
Narrabri Shire Council, as well as Gunnedah and Moree Plains, are among the areas eligible for assistance for flood events that have occurred from September 14 onwards.
The activation of the support scheme has been welcomed by federal Member for Parkes Mark Coulton.
The rate of payment is $1000 per eligible adult and $400 per eligible child.
Claims for this payment can be lodged with Services Australia for a period up to six months.
The payment is available for people who have been seriously injured, have lost their homes or whose homes have been directly damaged, whose major assets have been directly damaged or are the immediate family members of a person who has died as a direct result of the floods.
In addition to the Disaster Recovery Payment, the federal government also offers a Disaster Recovery Allowance to eligible people.
The allowance is a short-term payment to help employees, primary producers and sole traders who can demonstrate they have experienced a loss of income as a direct result of the floods. Eligible people can get the allowance for a maximum of 13 weeks. The allowance is not available to those already receiving another income support payment or pension such as the Age Pension, JobSeeker Payment or Service Pension.
