The NSW Liberal and Nationals government is investing $88,750 to create a visitor experience at Narrabri Fish Farm, with the funding being put towards accessible camping sites, amenities and cabins as well as bush tucker cooking classes and ‘yabbying’ tours.

NSW Nationals Upper House MP Sam Farraway recently visited the fish farm with mayor Ron Campbell and met with owner Rick Cunningham.

Mr Farraway said the investment by the NSW government would increase visitation to the Narrabri region, which will ultimately see growth in the number of people visiting other businesses, including local pubs, cafes and motels.

“The Narrabri visitor economy is bursting back to life, and this funding will help the fish farm deliver the best possible visitor experience for anyone travelling locally or interstate,” Mr Farraway said.

“Holidaymakers now will have the opportunity to stay locally, see the sites and taste some of the fantastic produce the Narrabri region offers with fish and yabbying taste testing on offer.

“Destination NSW data shows overnight trips, nights spent away, and spending in regional NSW are all up on pre-pandemic levels.

“This $88,750 investment will capitalise on this growth and ignite further opportunities to entice travellers into Narrabri to experience our diverse, compelling tourism offering.”

Minister for Tourism Ben Franklin said the NSW government had outlined a clear goal through the Visitor Economy Strategy 2030 to make NSW the premier visitor economy of the Asia Pacific.

“We are passionate about creating opportunities for businesses in regional NSW to achieve this goal by driving demand from new and returning visitors as the state forges ahead on its path to recovery,” Mr Franklin said.

Managed by the NSW government’s agency Destination NSW, the Experience Development Fund targets the development of world-class visitor experiences in NSW with grants of up to $150,000.
