Balonne Street resident Kath Davis was one of many householders who awoke on Monday morning to find her house engulfed in grass.
Blowaway grass was on the move.
Stiff winds had dislodged the grass from the paddocks and sent it on its way across a wide area to lodge against fences and houses.
“I went out on the back verandah at 6am and the veranda was a wall of grass,” said Mrs Davis.
“I had to fight my way down to the garage to get the car – it had banked up all the way through the backyard.”
What do you do with grass piled metres high? “I’m aware it is a fire hazard,” Mrs Davis said.
She added that her friend Max Pringle had jokingly suggested she put it in her green wheelie bin.
“There is enough here for all the bins in Balonne Street,” she said.
Some people recommend wetting the grass down to remove it, but whatever method is used, it will need a hands-on effort – unless the wind changes and the grass heads off in another direction.
