La Niña’s lashing rain didn’t dampen spirits at the Burren Junction community’s photography and art exhibition, with many attendees making the trip down muddy farm roads to mingle at the social gathering held earlier this year.

“I think those who attended enjoyed the evening, and despite the rain it was a fun way to start the eventful weekend for Burren with the CWA flower show on Sunday,” said Janine Powell.

A highlight of the night was the launch of a 2023 calendar featuring magnificent photos of every student from Burren Junction Public School at iconic Burren locations – from the silos to shearing sheds and even with a spectacularly restored John Deere tractor.

Vice-president of the BJPS P and C Janine Powell and her fellow committee members worked alongside talented local photographer John Burgess to bring the creative calendar project to life.

Hopefully, it will see a snapshot of Burren hanging up in kitchens and offices around the country – the perfect gift for anyone with a North West connection, a love of country scenes or a keen organiser and date planner.

The Burren Junction School of Arts hall was beautifully decorated for the event, its walls covered in stunning photographs from the calendar shoot and colourful artworks including some of the BJPS students’ award-winning entries from the Wee Waa Show.

The students also displayed photos they’d captured themselves, after they were given the opportunity to test their talents behind the camera and take part in a workshop with Mr Burgess thanks to a grant from Outback Arts. Mrs Powell thanked attendees, volunteers, grant providers and sponsors for their support and generosity.

Calendar sales will raise funds for BJPS P and C and the Burren Junction Progress Association, and its available online, at Relish Pantry, Wee Waa Newsagency, Agies Rural and Narrabri Tourist Information Centre. (As advertised)
