Firefighters responded to a fire at the Narrabri Waste Facility on December 29.

Narrabri Fire and Rescue and the Narrabri RFS Brigade were paged to reports of a fire at the Yarrie Lake Road facility.

The Myall Vale RFS Brigade was also called upon for the use of its water tanker. The Myall Vale brigade also assisted with water supply and foam blanketing tactics.

On arrival, crews found a large area of green waste and bulk furniture items including mattresses alight being fanned by strong winds burning within the waste complex.

Crews utilised a pump to apply compressed air foam to cut off and reduce the intensity of the fire until further FRNSW and NSW Rural Fire Service appliances could attend to supply additional water and manpower to assist in firefighting operations to extinguish the blaze.

Due to the deep seated nature of the fire in conjunction with the 35 degree temperatures, it took firefighters more than two hours to control the blaze and extinguish it with the assistance of council staff and plant machinery.

All crews worked seamlessly together to extinguish the blaze.
