The shire community is being encouraged to nominate a worthy recipient for the Senior of the Year award.
This year, the winner will be announced at the 2023 Senior Festival morning tea on February 8.
The honour celebrates and acknowledges the important role seniors play in the shire community.
Nominees must be residents of Narrabri Shire and aged 60 years or older, or 50 for Aboriginals, Torres Strait Islanders or people with a lifelong disability.
Mayor Ron Campbell said the Seniors Festival is an opportunity for the community to recognise the contributions of many of the senior members of the shire and thank them for their ongoing commitment.
He is encouraging the community to celebrate people’s contributions to the community by nominating them for the award.
Last year, a dedication to community organisations and events saw Joan O’Neill, of Narrabri, named the 2022 recipient. She was joined by award nominees Tricia Hadley, Sue Toop, Bruce Gray and Robert Downey.
Mrs O’Neill is a very active member of the community who has helped and participated in many committees and activities. Among her community involvements are being part of the Anzac Day breakfast committee, an oval lights organiser, RSL Sporting Body, Junior and Senior Touch committees, Narrabri Netball committee and Dragon Boat committee treasurer.
All nominees were described as treasured members of the community and are involved in a variety of causes in towns and villages throughout the shire.
To nominate someone for the 2023 award, visit council’s website or visit the Maitland Street office. Entries close on February 8.
