Boggabri hosted the first of six community conversations and barbecues organised for the Narrabri Shire residents.
Community members and residents were able to discuss concerns and ideas with council staff and councillors as well as have a look at the planned works in Boggabri for 2023.
Projects planned for Boggabri in 2023 are, shared pathway, street tree master plan, Jubilee Oval carpark entry area, sport and recreation plan review and splash pads.
Other projects include Dripping Rock feasibility study, Boston Street bridge, Laidlaw Street reseal and gateway signage.
In Oakham Street, replace 400m main pipe, renewal of southern section of Wee Waa Street pipes, constructing new effluent ponds, Boston Street renewal of raising main, and waste strategy for Boggabri.
The Boggabri flood study stand had a wealth of information and maps.
Boggabri has experienced significant flood events in 1910 and 1955, and smaller events in 1971, 1984, 2000, 2021 and 2022.
There will be a series of newsletters providing information to residents on what is being done and the progress to date.
Council is asking for local knowledge to confirm what they have found and plan.
There is a questionnaire that residents are asked to complete by March 10, 2023.
Flood maps are available on council’s website and at the Boggabri library.
Whitehaven has contributed $3.2 million to Boggabri public infrastructure, services and amenities.
There are guidelines as to how the money can be spent, however, council will work with the community through workshops and those wishing to participate in the community workshops were able to submit their names.
Community members were able to take home literature on several topics as well as pick up a new waste service guide for 2023.
Also on offer was a free sausage sandwich, icy poles, cakes and slices.
