Maules Creek Campdraft Club hosted its campdraft and junior rodeo from Friday, March 31, through to Sunday, April 2, and the annual event once again delivered three fun-filled days.

Wet weather last week threatened to cause headaches for the 2023 event, but it was able to forge ahead as the conditions cleared up in time.

Maules Creek Recreational Grounds hosted the maiden and final as well as the open for open jackpot on Friday, and the novice, junior and juvenile events followed by the junior rodeo on Saturday.

Sunday’s action included the highly-anticipated encouragement, ladies and open events.

The Maules Creek Campdraft Club’s assistant secretary, Sally Clarke, told The Courier that it was a fun weekend with a great atmosphere.

“It was a great weekend and we had a great roll up,” Clarke said.

“It was a bit touch and go before hand after a few storms. We had to go and check the grounds out but we just ended up starting later to give the grounds time to dry out.

“Competition was really high standard and we had a great atmosphere.”

Clarke said that one of the highlights of the event was the yabbie racing on Friday night to raise money for a young boy in Boggabri who is battling a disease.

The camp oven meals as well as the entertainment provided by Leon Cunningham on Saturday night were also a hit.
