Narrabri Stingrays Swimming Club hosted its annual awards presentation event at Narrabri Aquatic Centre’s conference room on Monday night.

The 2022/23 season’s Joanne Barnes swimmer of the year is Daniel Smith.

The club’s most prestigious award remembers Joanne Barnes, who was a committee member of the Narrabri Stingrays Swimming Club for more than 10 years before losing her battle with cancer in 2014. Jo was awarded life membership of the Stingrays that year.

She was passionate about both swimming and the Stingrays and she worked tirelessly in every aspect of the running of the club.

Supporting the club through all activities was extremely important to Jo and she led by example.

The winner of the swimmer of the year award is determined by a points system. When a swimmer reaches a qualifying time for a representative carnival – points are awarded. The higher the level and number of swims they qualify for, the more points they receive. Swimmers must have also qualified for Country Championships to be eligible for the award, and the awardee must have worn their Stingrays uniform proudly at all representative events.
