Upgrade works were recently completed at the telecommunications tower behind Narrabri post office.
A crane was deployed to lift two new dishes into place on the 50-metre high tower.
Regional general manager for Telstra in NSW, Mike Marom said the company is regularly upgrading its base stations and exchanges across the country.
“In mid-April this year Telstra upgraded our radio link equipment from Narrabri exchange to our mobile base station on Haystack Mountain,” he said.
“The new link is larger in capacity and offers more bandwidth, meaning a better data experience with better speeds and capacity for Telstra mobile customers when connecting to this site.
“The upgrade involved replacing two existing dishes on the Narrabri tower and two existing dishes on the Haystack mountain tower.
“Each day Telstra has about 60 million calls and 40 million SMS travelling across our national network, and demand for data on our mobile network is increasing by about 30 per cent each year.”
