Narrabri Bowling Club’s 2022 season finally wrapped up on Saturday when the mixed competition final was held at the John McNamara Owen Campey Green.
Di Chessells, Scott Dewar, Trinity Kelly and Bob Cantrill were crowned champions after they defeated Tony Redman, Cindy Neil, Rob Wolters and Helen Woodward 17-16 in a thrilling back-and-forth match.
Kelly, Dewar, Cantrill and Chessells scored a one on the first end to take an early lead, but then Redman, Neil, Wolters and Woodward hit back with a four on the second end.
Kelly, Dewar, Cantrill and Chessells regained the lead on the eighth end when a three saw them edge in front 8-7, but their opponents went ahead again on the 13th end as they scored a four to lead 13-10.
Redman, Neil, Wolters and Woodward were in front from the 13th end all the way up to the 19th, but a three to Kelly, Dewar, Cantrill and Chessells on the 20th end locked the score up at 16-all with just one end left to play.
Chessells played a resting toucher on that last end and her team won the final 17-16.
Narrabri Bowling Club also hosted the Narrabri Women’s Bowling Club’s 2023 season veteran singles competition semi-finals last Thursday.
Woodward and Heather Caton will contest the decider after both won their respective semi-finals.
Woodward had a comfortable win as she downed Kay Carolan 25-2.
Caton and Lyn Tuckey played 31 ends to decide the winner of the other semi-final.
Caton started well and after nine ends she led 7-5, but Tuckey then scored three shots on the 10th end to take an 8-7 lead.
The score on the 22nd end was 18-14 to Tuckey, and she then scored five shots to Caton’s one to lead 23-15 at the completion of the 26th end.
That meant that she only required two more shots to win the first-to-25 match, however, Caton played great bowls and claimed the next five ends to win the game 25-23.
