Helen Woodward wins ladies’ veteran singles comp decider

Local bowler Helen Woodward was crowned the champion of Narrabri Women’s Bowling Club’s 2023 veteran singles competition after winning the final on Thursday, June 8.

Woodward defeated Heather Caton 21-8 in a game played in very windy and wet conditions.

The score was 3-all after five ends before Woodward prevailed in the tough conditions to win 10 of the next 12 ends.

With the score at 21-8 after 17 ends, the game was declared over with the rain pouring down.

Two games in the president pairs competition were also contested that day.

One saw Marie Redman and Yvonne Hardman win their game. They were leading 16-4 after 14 ends when the rain stopped play.

Lisa Pillar and Trish Allison won the other match as they beat Val Falkiner and Carolynne Tomlinson.

Pillar and Allison were leading 13-9 when rain stopped play.

Social bowls was also played that day, as Dawn and Colin Armstrong outscored Jan Etheridge and Lyn Tuckey 19-11, and Glennis Godden and Berice Eather defeated Carol Demamiel and Gloria Campey 14-8.

Three games of president pairs were then contested last Thursday, June 15.

Hardman and Redman received a two shot-start from Kay Carolan and Ronnie Dewar in their match.

Hardman and Redman led 16-nil at end 10 following a blistering start.

Carolan and Dewar then scored 11 shots to Hardman and Redman’s two across the last eight ends to go down 18-11.

Janice Foxe and Janet Coleman had a very close game against Carol Demamiel and Lyn Tuckey.

The score with one end to play saw Foxe and Coleman leading 16-15.

They scored three on the 18th end to win the game 19-15.

Jan Etheridge and Berice Eather defeated Glennis Godden and Lyn Wedesweiler 22-9 in the other game.

Social bowls was also played last Thursday.

In three-bowls pairs matches, Doug Mackereth and Gloria Campey beat Trish Allison and Helen Woodward 36-12, while Rhonda Fitzgerald and Eva Sadler defeated Dawn Armstrong and Val Falkiner 21-9.

The president pairs game between the teams of Trish Allison and Lisa Pillar, and Dawn Armstrong and Helen Woodward, will be played on Wednesday, June 21, from 3pm

Match to be played on Thursday, June 22, is as follows:

Jan Etheridge and Berice Eather v Heather Caton and Eva Sadler.

Social bowls will also be played this week on Thursday.
