Narrabri Clay Target Club hosted a prestigious shooting event on Sunday that incorporated the Western Zone’s 75-Target Champion of Champion off 18 metres event and the local club’s Graincorp 50-Target Point Score Club Championship.

There were 30 competitors in action and about 50 people in attendance at the club’s grounds altogether, which made for an enjoyable day.

Narrabri Clay Target Club president Mark Barden told The Courier that it was an honour to host a shoot of such significance at home.

“It’s absolutely great to have it here,” he said.

“There’s a lot of planning that’s got to go into it and you have to apply in advance to be successful in hosting it, you don’t just get them, you have to work fairly hard and have the runs on the board to show that you’re worthy of holding these events.

“We were down a bit on numbers due to work commitments, but it still went off smoothly.”

The shoot was also the first outing for the Narrabri club’s newest trap.

“It was good to see that launched,” Barden said.

“The one that we pulled out will be rebuilt as a spare. We have actually never had that luxury before, having a fully-functional spare at short notice if we need it.”

That development is a timely one too, with Narrabri Clay Target Club set to host its annual King of Kaputar shoot next month on Saturday and Sunday, July 15 and 16.

Moree’s Clyde Mitchell claimed the overall high gun at Sunday’s shoot in Narrabri.
