NSW Department of Education has released an update on the Wee Waa High School redevelopment project.

The project will deliver new learning spaces, modern core facilities, including a library and multipurpose hall, a new agricultural and environment centre, sports fields and sports courts as well as a new Indigenous Cultural Centre.

“Construction has progressed quickly at the site of the new high school on Mitchell Street with the building structure almost complete to all buildings and internal fittings started which includes installing plumbing and electrical connection in a process known as ‘roughing-in’,” said a statement released on the department’s school infrastructure website. “Internal walls have also begun to be installed throughout all buildings.

“As communicated on the May 2023 works notification, drainage works outside of the established construction zone along Charles Street will begin shortly and a traffic management plan will be in place during the works.”

“We will continue the installation of roof components and doors to close the buildings and complete the ‘roughing in’ process,” said an update released by the Education Department. “We will then proceed to install the internal cabinetry, furniture, fittings such as taps and sinks and all other equipment.

“An exact date for when the school will be handed over is yet to be determined, however, we expect that most of the new buildings will be ready to welcome students in the coming months. In preparation, we have begun to meet with technical experts, the builder and the school to ensure a smooth transition and least amount of disruption to the operations of the school. The complexity of the project, which includes works to upgrade existing storm water infrastructure outside of the school site has meant that a staged handover of the school may be required.

“This means a portion of the new facilities could be handed over to the school, whilst construction for the rest of the facilities is completed.
