Narrabri Show Society is encouraging community members to become part of the shire’s biggest event.
Planning for next year’s show has already started, with the society looking for volunteers to assist on the committee and in the running of key sections.
A new committee will be formed at the organisation’s annual general meeting on Monday, August 7.
The society is encouraging more community involvement in the show and will open the committee positions for nominations.
Community members particularly interested in the roles of secretary and treasurer are encouraged to apply.
Narrabri Show Society is also seeking a horse ring steward, a crucial role in the running of the event.
To be classed as an agricultural show, it is requirement that Narrabri Show includes a horse section.
Vice president Bec Cope said the above three positions were fundamental to the running of Narrabri Show.
“For our previous show, we created new positions to make the secretary’s role more attractive to the wider community and get more community member involvement,” Ms Cope said.
Ms Cope has overseen two shows as secretary in previous years and said it is a rewarding role as you get first-hand experience at bringing the event to fruition alongside the committee, stewards and show volunteers.
“As we are a growing organisation, we want to attract more volunteers to ensure Narrabri Show continues now and into the future,” Ms Cope said.
“It is an exciting time to join the Narrabri Show as we prepare to celebrate the 150th anniversary in 2025.”
For those interested in taking up a position with the society, Ms Cope assured there are plenty of experienced people ready to welcome and assist newcomers to being part of what is one of the district’s most important events.
“Our previous horse ring steward has been incredibly supportive and will gladly assist whoever takes on the position to ensure a smooth transition,” Ms Cope said.
All office bearer positions will be declared vacant at the annual general meeting.
In addition to committee positions and the role horse ring steward, the society will also be seeking people to fill vacancies for steward positions in novelty events, whip cracking and woodchop.
Remuneration is available to the main executive positions of president, secretary and treasurer on completion of the term served.
All positions are fundamental for the running of the Narrabri Show, which is an annual highlight of the district calendar.
The annual general meeting is being held at the Tourist Hotel on Monday, August 7, at 6pm.
For information on the positions or to apply, nomination forms can be sought from [email protected]
Nominees must be a current financial member of the show society at the time of the annual general meeting.
Applications will close on Monday, July 31.
