Narrabri Garden members and visitors met at KHH Nursery T House for our June meeting.
We were lucky to have a bright sunny morning, and Kim and her team provided us with a delicious Devonshire morning tea.
After a brief meeting, Julie gave a talk on what has been happening at the nursery, and future plans.
She then answered questions from members about plants and gardening in general.
We then went for a very enjoyable wander around the nursery and gardens, which always seems to be expanding.
President Noeline Kiss reminded members who were anticipating going to the Garden Clubs of Australian National Convention being held at Lake Macquarie in September, that registrations would soon be closing.
Registrations have since been extended until July 31.
Some members have registered and are looking forward to an event packed few days of garden visits, guest speakers, as well as meeting like-minded members from all over Australia.
The flower competition this month was won by Ros Kelly, with Lyn Tuckey as runner-up. Congratulations ladies.
Some members attended the Garden Corner morning tea and demonstration, organised by Ronald Hardy, at Bunnings on Friday, June 10.
Kim Richards showed us the correct method for planting roses, and there was a demonstration on all the battery-operated tools available now for making those garden jobs so much easier.
No more arduous pulling to get that whipper-snipper to start!
Elizabeth Spicer won the lucky door prize, and got to take home the potted rose which Kim had planted.
Another workshop will be held on Friday, July 21, which will be just as enjoyable and informative.
The club’s next project is organising an open garden day on the October long weekend.
Great spring weather and beautiful local gardens will make an enjoyable day out, somewhere to take your visitors.
If you think you may be interested in showing your garden, we would be happy to hear from you. We stress that this will be open gardens only, not a competition.
The annual Spring Rose and Flower Show will be held in October, at the Bowling Club.
This has proved to be a popular venue, with easy access for entrants and visitors alike.
The schedule will be available shortly, so keep the date in mind and start planning what flowers and arrangements you may want to exhibit.
We are hoping to organise a visit in November to the Armidale Garden Festival, a weekend of workshops, guest speakers, stalls etc., as well as garden visits.
Please contact Noeline or Sue if you think you may be interested in this trip, as it will depend on having the numbers to make coach hire viable.
Our next meeting will be Wednesday 12 July, at the Scout Hall in Wukawa Street (as advertised).
Following the meeting we will have enjoy a delicious soup lunch.
Some of the good cooks amongst us have volunteered to make soup, thank you to those members.
Please bring along a soup bowl as well as your usual mug.
For those who are lucky enough to have flowers in your garden after all the recent frosts, don’t forget our bloom competition.
