Motorists travelling between Boggabri and Manilla will soon benefit from a smoother and safer journey, with work progressing well on the 19.6km upgrade of Rangari Road.
Transport for NSW region north director Anna Zycki said transport is delivering the project on behalf of Tamworth and Gunnedah shire councils, which involves widening and sealing the road, from 3.8km east of the boundary of Gunnedah and Tamworth LGAs to the boundary of Gunnedah and Narrabri LGAs.
“This is an important road for the community and Transport for NSW is prioritising the delivery of this project since taking it over in July 2022,” Ms Zycki said.
“We are committed to ensuring all motorists make it home safely and this is a great outcome for the community who will be delivered a safer, sealed road.
“This is a win for the local community with more than 250 cars and trucks travelling along this previously unsealed road daily which provides an important link between Manilla and Boggabri.”
Ms Zycki said since work started on the upgrade earlier this year, contractor Maas Civil Pty Ltd has completed vegetation clearing, drainage improvements, as well as 7.2km of earthworks, stabilised 5.5km of road, laid 3.8km of subbase and sealed 1.5km of road.
“Work on the upgrade is on track for completion in late 2023, weather permitting,” Ms Zycki said.
Work will continue to be carried out between 7am and 6pm on weekdays and Saturdays. Motorists are to allow up to 15 minutes extra travel time.
